We knew that transforming society, our communities, and ourselves go hand in hand. Recognizing this, we realized that our own organizational structure and culture must embody the values we desired for our communities, including shared leadership and sustainability. To accomplish this, we agreed to transition into a collective leadership structure and committed to deeply integrating sustainability practices throughout our work—decisions we hoped could challenge both widespread oppressive power dynamics and burn-out culture common to nearly all community organizations, including our own.
